Help your child develop early literacy skills
 Children who have been read to at home come to school with important early literacy skills — in short — they are prepared to learn to read and write.
On the other hand, children who have not had many experiences listening to books read aloud, or talking about books, typically start school with poor early literacy skills. These children often fall behind early in reading and writing and stay behind.
What can you do now?
A method you may be interested in trying with your preschooler is dialogic reading, an interactive reading technique that encourages children to become the storyteller over time, instead of simply having the story read to them. Try reading "Helping Children to Develop Early Literacy Skills with Dialogic Reading" on the LD.org website — integrating this method into your child's reading routine may be helpful to their literacy development!
