Get Ready to Read! has developed 36 one-on-one activity cards that are fun and easy to do. Print all of the activity cards as a set or pick individual activities. Also, choose activities based on the skill area and skill level. Viewing and printing the cards requires Adobe Acrobat Reader. Download it for free at www.adobe.com.

Print individual activity cards Select each activity from the activity card index page. Print by skill area The cards are organized into three skill areas: - Linguistic awareness refers to a child's understanding of how language works. Some linguistic awareness skills are: rhyming, letter sounds, counting the words in a sentence, and hearing the individual sounds in a spoken word.
- Print knowledge refers to a child's understanding of books, printed letters and words. Some print knowledge skills are: recognizing printed letters of the alphabet, knowing that print carries a message and being aware of how books work.
- Emergent writing refers to a child's beginning attempts to use print in a meaningful way. Some emergent writing skills are: first attempts at using letters to represent written language, writing his or her name and knowing how text should look in print.
Print by Skill Level The cards are organized into three difficulty levels: - Beginning cards are for children who are just beginning to develop the skills needed to learn to read and write.
- Making progress cards are for children who have mastered some of the skills needed to learn to read and write.
- Ready to read cards are for children who have mastered many of the necessary skills to needed to learn to read and write.
