* Learn all about child development at PBSparents.

* Check out the featured activity for preschoolers from Reading Is Fundamental.

Get Ready to Read! and the Stern Center for Language and Learning created a series of free Webinars for early education teachers and child care providers.  These 90-minute online workshops focus on building literacy skills in young children, and explore shared book reading, phonological awareness and the speech-to-print connection.  Parents will find some great ideas to try at home, too!

Download "Kindergarten Readiness Indicators—Observation & Activity Guide" (PDF, 24 pages). It helps teachers and parents know what to look for when observing a child, and provides a place to write down observations.

The guide also includes easy-to-use activity ideas to help children who are still developing these readiness skills.

NCLD will be launching the RTI Action Network Web site on April 7, 2008.

This new site features a section devoted to Response to Intervention on the Pre-K level, explores the Recognition & Response model, and offers helpful information and resources combined with networking access to top leaders in the field. Visit LD.org on April 7 for the Web site address!

* Listen to Dr. Barbara Foorman talk about the latest research on early interventions for struggling readers.

* Free Reading is a forum where teachers can share their ideas for teaching reading.

* NCLD's Educator Resource Center is full of information and resources to help you in the classroom and beyond.

Elementary schools must do more to lay the groundwork for students' understanding of algebra and more advanced math classes.  "Foundations for Success," a report by the National Mathematics Advisory Panel, suggests that math instruction should reinforce the basics, including fractions, with which many learners struggle.

The Week of the Young Child is an opportunity for programs, organizations, communities, and states to focus on the needs of young children and their families. Read all about activities you can do to celebrate this year's theme, Bring Communities Together for Children--Children Bring Communities Together.
